The ancient Nile River starts its quiet descent through 10 countries at Ripon Falls. Flowing in a northwesterly direction, it travels for 4,160 miles before it finally dumps 668,000 gallons of water into the ocean each second. While only 28 percent of the river is in Egypt, it has played an important role in their historical development as a source of food, reeds and trade. It is no wonder that ancient Egyptians thanked the god Hapi for its flooding waters each year. A chance to go on a luxury nile cruise through Egypt is a wonderful experience.

Accommodations

Most Nile luxury cruises use very small boats containing ample sized rooms. Unlike cruise ships that sail the open seas, most of these boats have fewer than 40 cabins. Guests can enjoy a variety of onboard experiences including dining on wonderful formal meals in the main dining room or enjoy all-you-can eat buffets. Receive luxurious spa treatments. Most have an onboard swimming pool which is a great way to cool off when you have enjoyed the warm Egyptian sun a little too much.

Sightseeing

Most luxury cruises on the Nile River stop at several towns. Cruises on the Nile run both directions so the itinerary may be reversed in some cases. Imagine exploring the city of Luxor, Egypt, with an experienced tour guide. You will probably visit the Valley of the Kings, Valley of the Queens and Queen Hatshepsut’s Temple. Visit Goddess Hathor’s temple of love before exploring the Horus Temple the next day. Explore the Granite Quarries where the ancient Egyptians got most of their stone to build the great temples and pyramids. Finish off your sightseeing adventure with a ride on a felucca.
